Marine Corps Tuition Assistance Coverage


Marine Corps Tuition Assistance is authorized up to 100%of tuition, not to exceed the caps of $250 per semester hour and $4500 per Marine per fiscal year. Within the caps set for Marine Corps Tuition Assistance, fees may be paid along with tuition when the fees are directly required for course enrollment. 

The installation Education Services Officer (ESO) has the discretion in limiting the number of courses or the course load taken per term by Marines.

Mandatory course enrollment fees are are authorized to be covered by Marine Corps TA.  Mandatory course enrollment fees are those refundable fees charged by the institution that are directly related to the enrollment in a specific course offered by that institution.   If a non-refundable fee is included in the Marine Corps Tuition Assistance and the course is canceled with no other courses active at the institution, it is the responsibility of the Marine to reimburse he institution or the Marine Corps for the non-refundable fee.  In order to be eligible for Marine Corps Tuition Assistance funding, the fees must be:

  • Published
  • Mandatory
  • Charged for course enrollment

Authorized courses must be offered by institutions accredited by agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education.  Marine Corps Tuition Assistance is authorized for:

  • Study leading to a valid High School credential or Diploma
  • Vocational and Technical schooling
  • Undergraduate study
  • Graduate Study
  • Independent Study
  • Distance Learning Programs
  • Developmental Courses (Developmental courses cover basic academic skills such as English, Math, Reading and Writing.  As long as the institution offers these courses for credit, Marine Corps Tuition Assistance may be approved.  If a student has been screened and identified by an institution's counselor as requiring developmental courses, they may use TA for these courses)
  • Certificate or degree at a higher academic level than that currently held by the Marine.
  • One graduate or professional degree (since they are considered degree equivalents)

Marine Corps Tuition Assistance is not authorized for:

  • Duplicate degrees
  • Courses that end after the Marine's EAS
  • Books
  • Computers
  • Tools
  • other tangible items
  • Continuing Education Units
  • Preparatory Courses
