The Department of Defense (DoD) has directed a uniform TA fiscal policy across the military services. Per semester hour cap is $250 and the fiscal year ceiling is $4,500. The Army will pay 100 percent of the tuition and authorized fees charged by a school up to the established per semester hour cap and fiscal year ceiling.

Who is Eligible for Coast Guard Tuition Assistance:

Coast Guard Tuition Assistance is available to Active Duty who are E-6 or below at the beginning of the academic course.  TA is available for Undergraduate courses only, and limited to six credit hours per fiscal quarter per member. The limit of six credit hours applies to course start dates. (i.e., 6 credit hours for courses starting between 1 April 2013 and 30 June 2013 and 6 credit hours for courses starting next quarter from 1 July 2013 to 30 September 2013). Tuition Assistance is not available for Reservists in a drilling status. Tuition Assistance is available for Reservists on long-term ADOS or EAD that meet the rest of the criteria.

What does the Tuition Assistance cover:

Currently, the Coast Guard does not authorize Tuition Assistance for vocational or clock-hour courses. All courses for which you want to use Tuition Assistance must be taken from nationally or regionally accredited institutions.  Also, to qualify for Tuition Assistance, the credit you earn for a course must be required for your degree program. Currently, TA is not authorized for courses for which you Continuing Education Units (CEUs), Professional Development Units (PDUs), non-accredited clock hours, or non-accredited contact hours.

Where do you apply for Coast Guard Tuition Assistance:

Most of the Coast Guard is now using the Navy's Internet-based eTA system to submit TA applications.  Only units which don't have reliable Internet access are exempt from the requirement to use eTA. Tuition Assistance is requested at https://myeducation.netc.navy.mil/
